waxing

DURATION

The duration of a waxing session depends on the specific area being waxed and the individual's hair growth. Typically, waxing sessions can take anywhere from 15 minutes for smaller areas like the underarms or sideburns to around 30 minutes or more for larger areas like the legs or back.

PERFECT FOR

Anyone looking to remove unwanted hair temporarily. Ideal candidates for body waxing typically include individuals who have sufficient hair growth. Waxing is most effective when there is enough hair to grip onto, typically around 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length. While most people can tolerate waxing, those with extremely sensitive or irritated skin may experience discomfort or adverse reactions.

LASTS UP TO

Waxing typically provides smooth skin for anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks, depending on individual factors such as hair growth rate, hair texture, and the area being waxed. Since waxing removes hair from the root, it takes longer for the hair to grow back compared to shaving, which only removes hair from the surface. With regular waxing sessions over time, hair growth may become finer and sparser, leading to longer-lasting results.

HOW TO PREPARE

Ensure that your hair is at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch long. If it's too short, the wax may not effectively grip the hair, resulting in incomplete hair removal. Gently exfoliate a day or two before your appointment, it helps remove dead skin cells and can prevent ingrown hairs. If you're concerned about discomfort during waxing, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as ibuprofen, about 30 minutes before your appointment.

WHAT TO AVOID BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

Try to avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Sunburned skin is more sensitive and prone to irritation during waxing. Avoid any grooming. Avoid medications with strong actives, such as retinoids (e.g., Retin-A) or oral isotretinoin (Accutane), can thin the skin and make it more susceptible to injury during waxing. If you recently had any chemical peels, laser hair removal, or other skin treatments in the same area, your skin may be more sensitive and prone to damage.

AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS

For the first 24 to 48 hours after waxing, avoid activities that could irritate the skin, such as hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, or vigorous exercise. Friction from tight clothing can also aggravate the skin, so wear loose-fitting clothing if possible. Give your skin some time to calm down before engaging in sexual activity to avoid exacerbating any irritation. Avoid products with harsh ingredients or fragrances that could irritate the skin. Newly waxed skin is more susceptible to sunburn, so avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 24 to 48 hours after waxing. If you need to be outdoors, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to protect the skin. Refrain from using products that contain alcohol, retinoids, or exfoliating acids on the waxed area for at least 24 to 48 hours after waxing, as these can irritate the skin. Avoid touching or picking at the waxed area, as this can introduce bacteria and lead to infections or irritation. Let the skin heal naturally.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

Besides smooth skin, it’s normal to experience some redness, sensitivity, and potential irritation; it’s all usually mild and temporary, and any discomfort or irritation should subside within a day or two.

AT HOME MAINTENANCE

Resist the temptation to shave between waxing appointments, as this can disrupt the hair growth cycle and lead to uneven regrowth. Stick to waxing regularly for smoother, longer-lasting results. To prevent ingrown hairs, gently exfoliate the waxed area 2-3 times per week, starting a few days after your waxing appointment. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub or loofah to remove dead skin cells and keep hair follicles from becoming blocked. Keep the waxed area well-hydrated by applying a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer regularly.
